• Morning drink

Not a beer. And yes, Daft Punk forever.

    It’s a non-alcoholic malt drink with peach flavor. Also, it’s 10 AM ?

I found myself liking the non-alcoholic counterparts due to taste. Alcohol is a refined taste, and it takes experience to fully enjoy it. For me, I still can’t get beyond the bitter taste or the burning sensation, so I’m settling down with the non-alcoholic version (also, it’s sweeter.)

Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world — presumably, after mead. I found it really fascinating that the starting point of human civilizations seemingly started from “accidents” a.k.a. Fermentation. Thousands of years ago, someone forgot to bring back a bunch of grapes and wheats and left it out for quite some time, letting happy bacteries doing their job, and ta-da, we got wine, mead, beer, and bread.

If that kind of story/history is your jam, I highly recommend you to read “A History of the World in 6 Glasses” by Tom Standage.

  • My two favorite humans.

This song was made during the height of the pandemic — telling a story of long-distance lovers.

‘Cause when you have your morning coffee I’m turning out the lights so I could dream And when you smile through the screen I wish you could be here with me

  • Backpain treatments?

Anyone here has tips or suggestions — preferably Youtube video — on yoga or some exercise to treat backpain?

I’ve been doing exercise since early June, and my exercise usually a 30-minutes treadmill walk (speed 4.0, elevation 3.5 – 5.0, depending on my mood) on daily basis. I found it helps me to focus better during the day, but I noticed this growing uneasiness on my back. Sometimes, when the weather and time permit, I swim — “swimming” would be an understatement, really. “Wiggling my arms while trying not to get drown” would be the best explanation.

At first, I chalked it to the usual period/menstrual/PMS discomfort, but it starting to bug me with stiff shoulders and neck.

Right now, I’m having a variation on my exercise. I do morning yoga during the weekend.

I personally pretty happy with the video’s routine above, but I want to know if you have some tips or exercise habit that you are doing to alleviate backpain and stiff shoulders + neck. Any insights are welcomed!

  • Langkawi, 2022

I made a 2-minutes video when my team had a team meetup in Langkawi a couple of weeks ago (“Leviosa” is the name of my team. Yes, that Leviosa.) This blog is the first one to see it ?

Some of the pics and the videos didn’t sync as good as I want at the end of the video. Oh well. Better result next time.

  • Some life updates

    Panoramic view

Kuala Lumpur should be entering the summer-y season by now but it seems like heavy rains still here to stay. The rain created dramatic sunset — this is a major TIL for me.

The reddish hue that you see at sunset (especially during rainy seasons) is due to the reflection of light from the low-cloud base, which happens to be relatively close to the ground. This is how rain plays an important role in changing the hue of the sky from blue to pale-white, yellowish-orange (especially over brightly lit roads) or even reddish.

Why Does The Sky Sometimes Appear Reddish During Rainy Seasons?

Also, you might know about it, but last week we concluded our team meetup in Langkawi, Malaysia. For some of the teammates, it was their very first team meetup. For some, it was a team meetup after 2.5 years of no traveling.

It was bittersweet, really. We were so happy to meet each other, but at the same time we had looming anxiety of what-ifs and general concerns about pandemic.

Anyway! We stayed at this hotel named Camar Langkawi. In 2019, my colleagues stayed on this hotel too when they had their team meetup and they wouldn’t stop raving about it. My team almost stayed there back in 2020 when we planned our team meetup. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the booking due to Covid-19. It was after 2.5 years we finally return there.

The only thing that I’m concerned about is the accessibility on the hotel. Their elevator is quite small in size and might not be suitable for wheelchair.

During the team meetup, we chatted about our work and our day (something like “How I Work”-chat) and the discussion gave a fresh inspiration to the team to exercise more and be healthy. All of us are tech workers and we are bound to sit on our desk of hours. Some of the teammates lead a pretty active lifestyle, and they shared some tips and encouragements for others (especially me, your self-certified potato) to start exercising. So, yeah, apparently swimming at 7 AM is therapeutic.

  • I rarely saved post drafts when writing a blog post because I usually able to ramble in a short period of time, until today, I decided to write about how I designed this blog (sidebar, cute background, pixel-thingy, and the likes.) Suffice to say, it’s, uh, long. My dormant Happiness Engineer-soul came back in full force, hahahah!

I’m still working on it. Hopefully, I can publish it by this evening (Malaysia timezone).
